My original plan was to bring you three new ideas every 2 weeks. But life.
So, now I’m going to be less ambitious and more realistic. I’m going to bring you new ideas… whenever I can. The volume might be lower, but hopefully the value is the same.
California is in the midst of a recall election. It appears the choice is between an elitist incumbent who doesn’t follow his own rules, or a conservative radio talk show host who other Republicans even say he has “backwards positions” on women’s rights. You should have your ballot already. Fill it out. Return it. Please?
California is definitely in another drought. We’ve had the hottest July on record, VERY small amounts of precipitation, and we’re heading into what it is likely to be another very dry year. Almost all of the state’s major reservoirs are at historically low levels. Between 50 and 60% of most residential water use is irrigation. If you have a lawn, try turning down your irrigation a little bit for a few weeks and see how your lawn does. If it’s still pretty green, turn it down a few more minutes until it just hangs on. If you already have a “water wise” landscape, start reducing watering length and frequency as it starts to cool off. You can help make a difference. If you’re into climate change porn (I’m not sure this works like the phrase “food porn”), check out these photos of Lake Oroville.
There’s a lot of smoke in the air in Northern California these days. Check out AirNow for local air quality info. If it hits the unhealthy category (or above) think about limiting your time outdoors, or try wearing an N-95 filtering facemask.
That’s it for this week. Hope to see you at the ‘ol inbox soon. Stay cool, stay safe.
